No funds to replace classroom

27 Mar 2014

The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso says she is aware that a classroom at Metsibotlhoko Primary School was constructed in 2004 under Ipelegeng programme.

However, Ms Tshireletso added that “it subsequently developed structural cracks which led to the structure being demolished in 2010, not 2005 as MP Ngaka Ngaka alleges.” Ms Tshireletso was responding to a question in Parliament from Letlhakeng West MP, Mr Ngaka.

She explained that the replacement of classroom was proposed amongst the priorities for construction under the new Primary School Backlog Eradication programme in the coming financial year.

However, due to limited funding, she said it could not be included, adding that it would be proposed for consideration during the financial year 2015/16.

As a temporary solution to accommodate pupils who should had been taught in the demolished classroom, she said the school dining hall had been divided into two classes.

Mr Ngaka had asked the Assistant Minister if she was aware that the classroom that was demolished at Metsibotlhoko primary school in 2005 had not been rebuilt. Letlhakeng West MP also wanted to know when it would be done. Ends
