Moreri reigns supreme

25 Mar 2026

Forty-two-year-old Leano Moreri of Molepolole was on March 21 crowned Miss Millennium 2026.

The 18th edition of Miss Millennium, a contest featuring elderly women contestants of varied ages and body shape was held at Millennium Jazz Restaurant in Mogoditshane. Phatsimo Ranjo followed closely as First Princess while Tshepiso Mphetlhe was named Second Princess.

Moments after her crowning, an emotional Moreri revealed that her reign will advocate for healing and support of divorced women, a cause deeply rooted in her personal experience.

“My project is inspired by my mother, who went through a difficult divorce ten years ago and still, has not fully healed. She faces stigma from the society, something many divorced women continue to endure in silence due to lack of support,” she said.

Moreri said her initiative will focus on creating safe spaces for healing, while working with stakeholders to address the social and emotional challenges faced by divorced women. Miss Millennium, a pageant established by a group of jazz enthusiasts, celebrates women aged 40 years and above and uniquely integrates beauty with purpose. The winner is tasked with spearheading a community project, reinforcing the platform’s commitment to social responsibility.

Giving keynote remarks, Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Ketlhalefile Motshegwa, commended the organisers and sponsors for sustaining the initiative over the years. He emphasised the importance of partnerships between government and community-driven platforms, noting that the pageant aligns with the ministry’s mandate of uplifting vulnerable and marginalised groups.

“We are a ministry responsible for community and social development, including the welfare of vulnerable groups in society. I invite the organisers and contestants to explore areas where we can collaborate on impactful community projects,” he said.

Motshegwa also highlighted the growing significance of the creative sector, stressing that arts and entertainment must be recognised as a key contributor to economic development.

“This is not just entertainment; it is an industry that needs to be resourced and supported,” he said, adding that government was keen to strengthen linkages between artists, industry players and development initiatives.

He further acknowledged contribution of the pageant’s pioneers, including organiser Miss Zenzele Hirschfield for their dedication in nurturing a platform that blends culture, music and social advocacy. Organisers noted that the 2026 edition marks the 18th staging of the event, a milestone that underscores its longevity and continued relevance in promoting empowerment among older women. ENDS
