South African acting royalty, Sello Maake kaNcube is topping the bill at the inaugural Creators Assembly Summit, taking place today and tomorrow at the Maitisong Theatre in Maru-a-Pula.

Held under the theme: Creativity, the New Currency, in partnership with BBS Bank, the summit was founded by local singer-songwriter Han-C. 

The idea emerged from discussions among Botswana music industry peers on driving collaboration and creating a sustainable future for local creatives.

What began as a focused initiative has expanded into a comprehensive programme featuring over 20 speakers, facilitators and panellists across music, film, dance, fashion, beauty and the visual arts, alongside corporate brands, financial institutions and policymakers.

Maake kaNcube leads a distinguished panel, including filmmaker Samuel Ngwenya, co-creator of the acclaimed drama series, COLOURS and musician-broadcaster, Thato ‘Scar’ Matlhabaphiri. 

Together, they will anchor sessions on storytelling, intellectual property, branding and commercialising creative work.

BBS Bank head of business relations and marketing, Sipho Showa, described the summit as a curated platform designed to merge learning, collaboration and networking to help artistes professionalise their craft.

Maake kaNcube’s participation brings significant star power following a last-minute schedule adjustment. 

Organisers, in consultation with BBS Bank, removed South African choreographer, Limpopo Boy from the line-up following circulation of a private video. 

While Maake kaNcube does not replace the dance slot directly, his presence provides substantial industry authority to the maiden event.

The summit ends tomorrow, shifting from panel discussions to hands-on workshops, collaborative sessions and the Creators Night Market. 

Organisers intend for the summit to transition into a year-round platform offering sustained mentorship and networking for Botswana’s creative economy. ENDS
