Contestants reconnect with culture at bootcamp

21 Aug 2026

Miss Independence Kgatleng(MIK) 2026 contestants spent three days immersed in Setswana traditions during a cultural bootcamp at Moreti’s Farm in Oliphant’s Drift from August 14 to 16.

The camp was designed to ground the young women in core values of Botho, Tlhompho le Maitseo before the pageant’s coronation next month.

Speaking during the bootcamp, Kgosi Mohutsiwa of Oliphant’s Drift said the experience gave contestants a chance to appreciate the importance of respecting and preserving their roots.

Miss Independence Kgatleng founder and CEO, Lebopo Bulayani said the objective went beyond pageant preparation. She urged the contestants to remain grounded in their principles while embracing faith, hard work, dedication, commitment and discipline.

The participants experienced Botswana’s way of life first-hand. Activities included cooking competitions, traditional games, collecting firewood, milking goats and horse riding.

Reigning MIK Male Ambassador and sponsor Andrew Motlhaping also addressed the group. He reflected on how the pageant had contributed to his personal growth and encouraged the contestants to be mindful of why they joined and to use their platforms to make a positive difference in their communities.

The bootcamp winner will receive P500. The Miss Independence Kgatleng 2026 coronation is scheduled for September 19 at Leobo La Bakgatla. ENDS
