19 Aug 2026
The 2026 Gaborone Book Festival(GBF),scheduled for August 20 to 22 is expected to attract a variety of writers, creators and readers for both fiction and non-fiction.
This year, the event will be held in collaboration with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Winsconsin-Madison in the United States of America and their Associate Professor of English Dr Kirk Sides will feature as a co-curator of the festival.
In an endeavour to promote reading and writing from a young age, atleast 50 children from different areas, mostly from low income communities, will be given the platform to participate in a writing workshop.
“We are bringing the traditional format of the festival, which is conversations, book talks, book launches, panels and book sales. What we are also excited abut this year is the fact that we will have the children’s festival and it will be a writing workshop for about 50 children drawn from schools in Gaborone and surrounding areas. These will be schools from low income communities since our focus for the school programme is low income, out of town and hard to reach,” GBF co-founder Ms Kenanao Phele said.
