Nomina bags major award in Rwanda

Decorated Botswana songstress Pamela Bhulu fondly known as Nomina in the music scene has once again received a top tier award, further positioning her as a rising female artiste on the continent.

Held at the Olympic Hotel in Kigali, Rwanda, the Shining Stars Africa Awards is one of Africa’s leading platforms recognising excellence in the creative and entertainment industry.

Speaking from her base in the African Great Lakes region, Nomina expressed joy after visiting Rwanda for the first time and being awarded a continental award which brought together top artistes, entertainers and creative from across the continent.

She was awarded the Best Female in Africa award, a recognition that highlights her growing reputation on the global and continental music scene.

“It is one of my memorable moments in my music journey and I’m delighted that my music has reached a wider global audience and receiving much recognition in my homeland Africa,” she said.

Nomina was excited to discover that her music was a universal language that connected people from different cultures and countries as far as Rwanda.

Born to a Zimbabwean mother and a Motswana father, Nomina is a reputable songwriter and music producer known for her vocal prowess and blending genres such as afro pop, RNB and soulful amapiano sounds.

She was born in Plumtree but grew up in Botswana before spreading her wings to international stardom and finally landing in Germany where she is currently based.

Throughout her music career, she has built a strong reputation with music that talks about love and general life experiences.

Her debut single, Don’t Cry for Me Africa, received widespread praise for its emotional depth and sonic richness.

Nomina’s hit singles, Luthando and Amadlozi, have topped charts with the latter reaching number one for three weeks on the USA top 40 radio charts while Luthando was number one for six weeks on the Zimbabwean charts making a significant impact on the African music scene.

She was nominated for the Zikomo Africa awards last year in the best Zikomo artist of the year for southern and east Africa and collaborated with among others celebrated international artistes such as Sean Kingston.

Her victory in Kigali highlights her growing influence and continued contribution to the continental music. 

Despite working and living in Europe she has remained connected to her African roots consistently reflecting her culture through her soul soothing sounds.

Her music career dates back to 2016 and among her many accolades was the 2024 RBE award in London for the Best International Artist, a testament of her global influence. ENDS
