26 Aug 2024

Scores of culture enthusiasts draped in fashionable African prints and German attires attended the Cresta Bosele Food Festival on Saturday where they were treated to traditional Tswana cuisine.

The attendants were treated to a wide array of succulent traditional cuisine, which included oxtail stew, seswaa, bogobe jwa lerotse, mokoto, samp and beans as well as fish and mophane worms.

Through this cultural event, Cresta Bosele wanted to network with potential customers and other stakeholders to grow the hotel brand, among other things.

“The idea is to enjoy the diversity of our culture and at the same time to unite the Selebi Phikwe community,” said Cresta Bosele general manager, Ferdinand Sebinyane in an interview.

He said the festival, which was on its 13th year was also meant to promote Setswana culture and support local farmers by buying cereals, legumes and other food stuff from them.

Located in Selebi Phikwe, Cresta Bosele is the gateway to the Tuli Block, famous for its abundant wildlife and an ideal venue for conferencing, corporate travelers and wildlife enthusiasts.

Despite the economic hardship faced by Selebi Phikwe community due to the closure of the BCL mine, Creata Bosele stood the test of time and continues to be the number one hotel of choice.

“We invite everybody who visits Selebi Phikwe Town to book for accommodation at Cresta Bosele hotel,” he said.

Sebinyane also explained that the event was also meant to showcase local talent by bringing in Selebi Phikwe-based upcoming artistes to share the stage with veteran musicians.

Artistes such as Pontera and Letlharapa la badisa traditional group thrilled the crowd with their outstanding performances.

“This food festival gives us the opportunity to interact with other members of the community,” said Gabosekiwe Mbayi, a resident of Selebi Phikwe.

He commended Cresta Bosele for bringing the festival to Selebi Phikwe community every year, adding that since the closure of BCL mine the town had few events.

He urged other companies to follow suit and join hands with other stakeholders to resuscitate the economy of the town through various events.

Another resident, Councillor Evelynn Kgodungwe shared the same sentiments that the event would help market the town and attract more visitors to the copper mining town.

She urged other stakeholders to support Selebi Phikwe businesses including the informal sector.

Kgodungwe also urged the community to adopt healthy lifestyles by eating traditional dishes and exercising. ENDS
