South African muso, Johnny Mokhali is expected to headline Jwaneng Charity Music Festival billed for Dladleng Amusement Park on December 8.
The Ba Tlogeleng ba tle go nna hitmaker, who has also composed a song about Jwaneng, will share the stage with Botswana’s finest music stars in the likes of Vee Mampeezy, A.T.I and Ezra Neethings, among other local acts.
A brain child of the Jwaneng Mayoral Development Trust, the charity music festival is intended to cushion people who lost their cars during a fire incident, which happened during the Toyota Gazoo Racing 1000km Desert Race in June.
A total of 49 vehicles estimated to be worth over P3 million were gutted down by the inferno.
“The music festival is a collaboration between Jwaneng Mayoral Development Trust and the office of the mayor, intended to raise funds to cushion spectators who lost their cars during the fire incident.
As the Jwaneng community, we acknowledge the effect of the incidents and therefore want to extend our love to those who suffered the loss.
We also wish to resuscitate the jolly mood in our township following the gloomy atmosphere created by the unfortunate incident,” Jwaneng mayor, Olga Ditsie said in an interview.
Additionally, she noted that the event would be reassurance to the general populace that Jwaneng still had the capability to host a big event, despite what transpired during the Desert Race.
Ditsie also indicated that the festival was a publicity tool to make the public aware of their plans to register a Trust Fund specifically to crowd fund the car owners.
“We are currently in the process of registering a Trust Fund to allow businesses and individuals to contribute towards this noble course.
The proceeds from the festival will be a start-up for the fund once the registration process is complete,” she noted.
Consequently, she appealed to companies and individuals to support the initiative in various ways, including sponsorships for the music festival.
She also indicated that contribution details towards the Trust Fund would be shared with the public in the near future. ENDS
