Nkokowe live recording session billed for tomorrow

25 May 2023

Renowned local Setswana poet, Moroka Moreri will tomorrow host a live recording session for his 15 track poem album titled Nkokowe.

In an interview on Tuesday, Moreri said the event themed: Ignite the Fire of Creativity, will take place at Maitisong Theatre in Gaborone.

He said Nkokowe was produced more than five years ago and had been doing well locally and across the borders, hence the live recording, intended to meet the expectations of the 21st century audience and to reach out to his diverse fans across the globe.

“Embracing technology will help us gain exposure and enhance the growth of the entertainment industry,” he said.

He further noted that the recording session, which was initially scheduled for last month, was postponed due to some obligations that included the untimely death and burial of the late Mmereki Marakakgoro as they had worked together in some of the songs in the album.

Moreri said besides promoting his personal development in the entertainment industry, the session would also help raise money for Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives to help some of the musicians who are in need.

He said one of those to benefit was the jazz legend, Bonjo Keipidile who contributed towards the Grammy-winning song by the famous Jonas Gwangwa. He said the intention was to build him a house and help record his music.

He said for diversity, the session would feature different local artistes including the jazz maestro Lister Boleseng, Gospel giant Phemepheretlhe Pheto, renowned traditional dance troupe Mafitlhakgosi, Trans Kalahari Jazz Quintet and the vibrant poet Tsikitsiki.

Some of Moreri’s popular renditions in the album include Nthata, a love song that denounces gender-based violence-related acts and preaches love and peace among family members.

Through the song cum poem Botho, he aims to apply the principle of Botho to combat moral deterioration in communities. ENDS
