Boteti celebrates culture
25 May 2023
Preparations are on track for the Boteti Cultural Day event scheduled for tomorrow at Leupane Pan adjacent to Mokobaxane village.
Event organiser Leteng Segaise said the aim was to capture the culture of the people residing in the 19 villages of Boteti from Mmeya to Makalamabedi.
“The show is on its seventh edition and on the day we will have drama plays demonstrating the culture of Basarwa, Baherero, Bakalanga, Bakhurutshe and other ethnic groups found in Boteti,” he said. He said the event catered for the young and the old who would learn more about the Basarwa culture of healing while Baherero would share how Gondihva or maere made from sour milk.
The event, he said, was community-based and made possible by sponsorship from mining companies operating in Boteti and other local companies.
Segaise said traditional food and beverages would be sold and also explained that proceeds of the event would benefit the underprivileged members of community in Boteti.
Entrance fee for the event is P100 standard ticket and P250 VIP ticket.
He said the event is preceded by a cultural night on Friday, whose entry would be free. ENDS
