Over P2m needed to complete facility

24 Nov 2021

A total of P2.8 million is required to fix critical items necessary for Bobonong community sports facility to be operational.

Phase one that cost P5 million, has been completed and phase two is well underway at 75 per cent.

However, it has been realised that some critical components have been left out in the bill of quantities and it will require more funds to fix.

According to Bobonong Sub-council chairperson, Christopher Motsholapheko, care and maintenance equipment for artificial turf, access to the facility and area lighting were some of the omitted components.

In an interview, Motsholapheko said the sub-council would engage with Botswana National Sports Commission to source funds.

Although he did not commit to a date, he expected funds to have been sourced before the end of the year or early next year so as to aid completion of the complex.

Phase two of construction of the sports facility entails construction of football field with artificial turf, volleyball and netball courts with bitumen finish and scaffolding stand.

The chairperson stated that the contractor was currently working on the base layer of earthworks for the field with surfacing for volleyball and netball courts complete.

Meanwhile, the Mmadinare facility was still at phase one, which was unbundled and re-tendered to seven local contractors. While other components of the facility were above 75 per cent complete, the construction of the south boundary wall that commenced on October 25 was still at eight per cent completion.

However, the phase one of the project, which entails construction of boundary walls, toilet blocks, change rooms and kiosks and canteen, is expected to be completed on December 17.

Construction of the two facilities was launched by the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture Development in November 2019. ends
