Double Action ready

17 Aug 2021

Double Action have set  focus on the 2021 Total Energies CAF Women’s Championships League, COSAFA qualifiers billed for South Africa.

Though the team could be described as one of the underdogs, it intends to use its array of talent to cause upsets.

A total of seven teams will compete in the tournament set for August 26 to September 4.

The tournament winner will represent the southern region at Total Energies CAF meet slated for Egypt later this year.

In an interview, Double Action’s Seky Sesinyi, said the team had been in camp for more than a month.

“All our players are fit and ready for battle,” he said.

He said being in camp played an important role in ensuring that all the players stayed free of COVID-19.

“We did not want a situation where our players would contract the virus, which was obviously going to negatively affect us,” he said.

Sesinyi said they were going to make Batswana happy, adding that they were not going there to participate, but to compete.

He noted that they know most of their opponents’ strengths and weaknesses.

Sesinyi said their target was to qualify or finish in the final.

“This would be a great achievement and for the past month and a half, we have been working towards achieving that,” he said.

Sesinyi said the team had not yet secured a corporate sponsor, but was optimistic that it would find one.

He urged potential sponsors to come forward and support the team.

“It is good to start with the team from the beginning until the final stage rather than coming only when the club is shining. They should be proud of being part of building something great, not only coming when the results start showing,” he added.

He hailed Botswana Football Association, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Tumiso Rakgare as well as BNSC for unwavering support.

He further appealed to the nation to rally behind the team since it would be representing the country.

“On August 26 at 12 noon, Batswana should be putting on national colours and watch Double Action as we would be playing our first game and we promise to put smiles on their faces,” he said.

The team, led by coach Oupa Kowa, will leave for South Africa on August 21.

Group A is made up of Double Action, Mamelodi Sundowns, Manzini Wanderers and Lesotho Defence Force, while Group B is made up of Tura Magic, Green Buffaloes and Black Rhino Queens.

The top two teams from each group would advance to the semifinals and the winner of the tournament would represent Southern Region in the 2021 Total Energies CAF Women’s Championships League.

Double Action would kick start the competition by locking horns with Manzini Wanderers on August 26.

Meanwhile female referees, Botsalo Mosimanewatlala and Itumeleng Methikga will be officiating at the tournament. ENDS
