Mujangi wants police to return cellphone

18 Mar 2014

A state counsel in the murder case of a Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital nurse has informed the court that investigations on the matter are not yet complete.

Briefly appearing in court on behalf of Ms Connie Letsoalo, Mr Atinah Mandigo said the investigations were on-going and the investigating team was still awaiting a report from the forensic laboratory.

Mr Kabelo Gaonyadiwe of KK Sechele Attorney representing first accused, Atlholang 'Two metre' Mujangi, argued that the police must return the cellphone that they seized from his client because if they needed any information there were other means of getting it rather than seizing the phone.

Principal Magistrate Thebeetsile Mulalo said the police were empowered by law to seize any item, which they felt could be instrumental in their investigations and he set another mention date to June 16.

Mujangi and Tshepo Nnewe who are both on conditional bail are accused of murdering a 28-year-old woman who was a nurse at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital early this year.

Mr Shathiso Nlebgwa of Ndawana Attorneys represented Nnewe on behalf of Mr Morris Ndawana.

Still in the same court, Mmusi Kelapile, Mothusi Lesole, Fetogang Mathunya and Petrus Moyo briefly appeared for vandalism and theft of cables and other electrical goods at the new Francistown Stadium.

The cables and goods were valued at over P400 000. Mr Mulalu set another mention date to May 13 while trial dates were set for November 3 and 4. Moyo complained that the trail dates were too far. Other accused persons are on bail while Moyo is in custody.

Last month another Magistrate, Ms Jennifer Chikate sentenced other two accused persons in the same matter, Nxobizitha Ncube and Bhekinkosi Ncube each to three years imprisonment and awarded a compensation order to the Botswana government for the vandalised goods.

The Ncubes had pleaded guilty to the charge. ENDS
