Police investigates arson and assault

Gweta Police are holding in custody a  33-year-old man of Sekao ward in Tsokatshaa in Nata/Gweta constituency for allegedly stabbing 23-year-old girlfriend and mother of his two infant children on Friday night and setting the house they were sleeping in on fire.

Gweta station commander Superintendent Tabengwa Magwama said on Monday that their investigations, revealed that the couple had a misunderstanding at their shared house and the girlfriend asked the man to leave.

He said the man pretended to leave only to come back in the wee hours of the night drunk and armed with a sharp object he allegedly used to stab the woman under the breast.

He said while the woman called for help from neighbours, the man set the house where their two children aged 12 months and two years were sleeping with their mother.

He said fortunately, the neighbours managed to rescue the young children before the house was engulfed by the fire leaving them with nothing except the clothes they were wearing. The accused is expected to appear before Nata Magistrates Court this week.

The victim, she said was treated at the hospital and was recovering at home. ENDS
