Mojadigo trial set for August

08 Jul 2025

The trial of Goitsekgosi Mojadigo on charges of rape and defilement is scheduled to commence at Mochudi Magistrate Court on August 12, pending the outcome of a High Court ruling on an application in which the accused sought the merger of his cases.

Principal Magistrate Queen Moanga of Mochudi Magistrate Court, who shared the new date on July 7 during the accused’s appearance, further remanded the 33-year-old founder of Divine Anointing Church International in custody and ordered that he be taken to the nearest police station to report allegations of assault.

The High Court ruling set for August 5 follows Mojadigo’s plea to the court to merge the four offenses brought against him, and has led to the trial, which was originally scheduled to begin on Monday, to be postponed for the second time.

Earlier, the accused’s attorney, Mr Olehile Manchwe narrated to the court that on May 25, Mojadigo and 34 other inmates at the First Offenders Central Prison were viciously assaulted by warders, resulting in injuries.

Mr Manchwe, who alleged that the inmates were denied medical attention after the assault, said the beating occurred under the guise of a search, when the inmates were ordered to lie down, and the assault took place. He added that he had spoken with his client, who was walking with the aid of a crutch, and had observed bloodstains on his pants and a wound on his thigh.

Mr Manchwe explained that he attempted to have relevant authorities authorise medical treatment for those assaulted but that when his efforts were unsuccessful, he resorted to the court’s intervention as his client was not free to go and report the incident at a police station.

He said he had also requested that his client be transferred to a different facility to prevent victimisation. Mojadigo is accused of rape and defilement, offences which he is alleged to have committed in Francistown and Morwa. ENDS
