Elderly man accused of setting house ablaze with two people inside

A 69-year-old Molepolole man is accused of setting fire to a house while two people were sleeping inside, resulting in his arraignment before the Molepolole Magistrates’ Court on two counts of attempted murder.
John Kasale, who resides in Bokaa ward, was arraigned on Monday in connection with the alleged incident.
According to the charge sheet, Kasale allegedly attempted to cause the death of Kelebogile Nompa on or about August 21, 2026, at or near Bokaa ward by setting fire to a house in which Nompa was sleeping.
He faces a second count of attempted murder arising from the same incident. The charge sheet alleges that Kasale attempted to cause the death of Ofentse Kgomotso by setting fire to the house in which Kgomotso was sleeping.
Kasale, who is unemployed, is scheduled to appear before the Molepolole Magistrates’ Court for mention on September 24, 2026.
Investigations into the matter are continuing.
Meanwhile, a 29-year-old man is accused of fatally stabbing a fellow man in the chest with an okapi knife in Mmanoko on Sunday.
The accused, Tirelo Phakela was arraigned before the Molepolole Magistrates’ Court on Monday after being charged with murder in connection with the death of Gaorelatlhe Gaorelatlhe.
According to the charge sheet, Phakela allegedly murdered Gaorelatlhe on or about August 23, at Mmanoko village by stabbing him in the chest with an okapi knife.
Phakela, who is unemployed and resides in Mmanoko, faces a single count of murder contrary to Section 202 of the Penal Code.
He will return to the Molepolole Magistrates’ Court for mention on September 24, 2026. Investigations continue . BOPA
