Maun police are investigating a murder and attempted murder incident involving a 41-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man that took place at Boseja ward yesterday.

Station commander Superintendent Joseph Lepodise confirmed the incident, noting that they received a report around 2 am from the elder sister to the deceased woman, who reported that she heard someone screaming and hurried to her sister’s house only to find her together with the man in a pool of blood lying helpless.

“We rushed to the scene and indeed found the duo lying motionless with injuries all over their bodies. We engaged the emergency service operator to take them to Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital, where, upon arrival, the woman was confirmed dead,” he added.

The male victim, he said, was admitted and currently under critical condition as he sustained injuries on the head and the body. Superintendent Lepodise said they suspected that the person who attacked them could have used a sharp object.

Fortunately, he said they had arrested a 51-year-old man in connection with the two offences, noting that the suspect was said to be the ex-boyfriend of the deceased. By the time he was arrested, he said the suspect claimed to be unwell. He was taken to the hospital, where he was admitted under the escort of the police. Once discharged, he said the suspect would assist them in the investigations.

Superintendent Joseph also revealed that they were investigating another incident in which a crocodile attacked a middle-aged man while fishing in the Thamalakane River at Matlapana around 1830 hours yesterday. A 40-year-old man who heard the victim screaming, he said, reported the matter to the police after rescuing him.

“The man said he pulled the victim and eventually overpowered the crocodile until it released his leg,” he said.

Upon arrival at the scene, the police, he said, found the victim with serious injuries on his thigh and was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently recuperating. The police chief appealed to community members to be vigilant when visiting water sources as they housed dangerous animals. ENDS
