Man arrested for road metal spikes

A 23-year-old man of Mathuba ward in Tshimoyapula has been arrested for allegedly pinning metal spikes along the Tshomoyapula-Serule tarred road sometimes in December last year. A press statement from Botswana Police Public Relations Office says the arrest followed an intensive investigations, which followed a video circulating on social media depicting several metal droppers pinned on the road. The statement says the police investigations are advanced and preliminary reports point to a motive to commit crime targeting motorists. It says as a result of the pinned metal droppers, some motor vehicles suffered tyre punches, but no one was attacked or injured in the process. The police further say they have identified two victims whose vehicle tyres got flattened and added that the suspect will be arraigned in court on Tuesday (07/01/2025) on two initial counts of encroaching on and damaging road and malicious damage to property. Meanwhile, Bobonong Police also have arrested a 34-year old Motswana man of Malepane Ward, Bobonong in connection with an alleged robbery and theft of motor vehicle which occurred at Motloutse cattlepost near Molalatau Friday (03/01/2025). The police public relations office statement says the arrest follows an incident in which two unknown men attacked and robbed the victims of a motor vehicle, laptop, cellular phone, and proceeded to a tuck shop where they stole stock goods cumulatively amounting to over P100 000.00, adding that no one was injured during the attack. Subsequent to the robbery, the police acted swiftly and arrested one of the suspects and upon search recovered a cellular phone, Laptop and some items suspected to be the proceeds of crime. The police further managed to recover the stolen motor vehicle. The suspect is in police custody while investigations continue. The police therefore, appeal to members of the public to assist in arresting the other suspect who is still at large through contacting Bobonong police on 2619222, 2619381, 999 or the nearest police station.
