Court further remands duo in custody

The Principal Magistrate of Francistown, Ms Ditebogo Ntuli will on Tuesday deliver a ruling regarding the bail application of two Chinese nationals found in possession of over P7 million, the source of which they could not account for.
The two individuals face a single charge of being found in possession of stolen property.
They were apprehended at a roadblock near Tati Siding last Sunday, where law enforcement officials discovered the significant sum of money.
Detective Sub Inspector Misani Modise from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed court that the source of the funds remained unverified.
He expressed concerns that if the accused were granted bail, they might interfere with ongoing investigations or attempt to evade justice, especially given the large sum involved.
Mr Modise requested a 14-day remand to allow for a thorough investigation into the matter.
In contrast, defence attorneys Mr Malike Mmohe and Kesegofetse Molosiwa argued against the remand, urging the court to release their clients on bail.
They emphasised that the investigation could continue without delaying their clients' release and asserted that the two were not flight risks. The defence called for the consideration of conditional bail.
Currently, the unaccounted-for money is in the custody of the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) for further investigation. The two accused remain in custody pending the court's decision on their bail application. ENDS
