Police search for three suspects

10 Oct 2024

Police in Ghanzi are appealing to the community to assist them with the arrest of three unidentified suspects who on Tuesday at around 11:00pm near Kgaphamadi ward are alleged to have raped a 46-year-old Kacgae woman and disappeared into thin air.

In an interview with BOPA, Ghanzi station Commander, Supt Modiro Lekone, said the three unidentified suspects are alleged to have followed the victim from a drinking place and later dragged her to the nearby bushes, behind the Ghanzi Stadium screen wall, and took turns to rape her.

Supt Lekone said the matter was reported at 2:00am and the victim was taken to the hospital where she was treated and discharged, while police investigations are still ongoing.

He advised the public to avoid walking alone at night more especially after drinking sprees but rather walk in company of their trusted friends for safety purposes.

On other issues, Supt Lekone said they have arrested two New Xade men aged 22 and 34 in relation to threat to kill matters that happened on Tuesday but at separate times.

The suspects and the complainants all reside in Mothomelo ward. In the first matter, the 22-year-old man is said to have threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend aged 20 years after a drinking spree at around 11:00am by uttering the following words: “Ke tlaa go bolaya le ngwana wa gago wa ntlha, wa bobedi le wa boraro.”

On the second matter, the 34-year-old is said to have met his ex-girlfriend on the way from the police post in the company of a friend at around 7:30 am and started uttering the following words: “Ke tlaa go bolaya a bo ke ipolaya, re tlaa tsena mo lebitleng le lengwe hela.”

Mr Lekone pleaded with couples to accept the relationship break-ups and try to move on with life.

He said the police are overwhelmed with threat to kill cases in their policing area, but some cases are never prosecuted accordingly because of a persisting behaviour by complainants to withdraw matters after reporting them.  He implored complainants to allow the law to take its cause to avoid unforeseen circumstances.
