Law does not prohibit driving barefooted
07 Jan 2014
The Road Traffic Act does not make it a crime to drive barefooted and it does not specify the kind of shoes to be worn while driving, says Mr Bruno Paledi, the deputy commissioner of police.
Mr Paledi said in an interview that it was therefore not an offence to drive barefooted or wearing slippers. He said however that driving barefooted could impair one from driving properly because of the likelihood that toes could get stuck under pedals.
The interview with Mr Paledi followed an observation that some drivers, especially women, preferred to drive barefooted or wearing slippers. In Britain, driving barefooted is illegal. ENDS
