02 Jun 2024

In a tragic turn of events, the accused in a Molepolole taxi driver murder case Mohammed Tajbhai reportedly committed suicide at his mother’s home in Gaborone’s Extension 12 on Saturday evening.

Broadhurst Station Commander Superintendent Olefile Badisang confirmed the incident in an interview on Sunday.

Supt Badisang revealed that the family reported the incident to Broadhurst police around 530pm  after discovering the deceased hanging from the rafters of the family’s courtyard.   Supt Badisang explained that when police arrived  home they found the 34 year-old hanging from the rafters with a rope around his neck and was immediately transported to Extension 2 clinic in Gaborone where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Following the news of Tajbhai’s death, Central Police Station Commander Supt Sharpson Mbuso when approached for further information and quizzed on the possibility of a post-mortem examination, he confirmed that no procedure was carried out as the family requested not to conduct a post-moterm.  As such the family’s wishes were granted and his body was released to the family on Saturday evening.

Prior to his death, Tajbhai was facing serious criminal charges.  He had been accused of the murder of a taxi driver in Molepolole and one count of robbery.  He had also been found guilty on a separate charge of unlawfully discharging a firearm in Gaborone’s Extension 10 sometime last year.  He was released on bail while awaiting the outcome of his legal proceedings.
