Police BDF receive donation
15 Dec 2013
President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama has handed food hampers donated by Choppies Chain Store to the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) and the Botswana Police Services.
He handed the food hampers worth P1 million to be used by members of the BDF and the police as they will be deployed to different areas across the country over Christmas holidays.
Lt Gen. Khama said the aim was to give the officers a chance to enjoy Christmas away from their families, adding that patients admitted at various hospitals in the country would also get to benefit from the donation as they would not be able to join their families during the holidays.
The generosity by Choppies Chain Store, he said , was greatly appreciated, saying he was also going to give the hampers out to children as he travelled around the country.
President Khama said he appreciated the gesture by Choppies, saying it was one of the leading organisations in alleviating poverty among the disadvantaged. Choppies donated a clinic and they supported the President’s housing appeal.
He said people should act responsibly when they enjoyed themselves and they must cooperate with the police. The coordinator of the Health Hub, Mr Gabolekwe Tlogelang, said it was gratifying to receive the goods to be given to the needy and hospitalised patients.
He commended Choppies for the good gesture. The chief executive officer of Choppies, Mr Ramachandran Ottappath, said accountability for the donated goods was important.Ends
