Police cluster request new strategies
13 Dec 2023
Kanye Police Cluster has been urged to employ new strategies in fighting crime especially at this time of the year, where analysis indicates rampant crime statistics.
Kanye First National Bank Branch Administration Manager, Mr Eric Setumo, said this in his keynote address at the Kanye Police Cluster Performance, where nine clusters from their policing area were handed the certificates which they attained at the national level cluster performance exercise.
Mr Setumo appealed for participation from clusters adding that, as Botswana Police Service was on a 60-day exercise against Crime and Road Safety, their input was highly anticipated in order to achieve the intended goal.
The initiative spearheaded by Botswana Police Service Crime Prevention Unit, and all the nine clusters belonging to Kanye Police took position one in the best category, whereas in the four clusters took position one Best Practice Category, and five clusters took position two.
Mr Setumo said Botswana Police’s mission was to provide policing in partnership with the community, adding that emphasis of this mission is that community participation is very essential in the prevention and detection of crime in our community.
“It is therefore the desire of Botswana Police to ensure meaningful partnership with the community,” he said. He therefore extended his sincere congratulations to the Kanye Police Community forum, inclusive of all structures for the good performance and commitment on the fight against crime.
“I am humbled by the selfless dedication and commitment by some of the cluster members for their efforts. I therefore encourage that you continue mentoring the youth on the benefits of fighting crime,” he said. He recognized and appreciated their sacrifice and input and that of other stakeholders.
He added that such dedication is huge as they have invested a lot of time towards the noble initiative of fighting crime relentlessly. “We recognise the excellence and the results of spirit of volunteerism,” he said. “This is a good sign of achievement as far as Botswana Police is concerned.”
He advised that this recognition of their selfless and committed efforts should serve as a motivation to keep the momentum rolling. “What we desire as a nation is to see our communities building consensus and working together for a common goal of fighting crime in our country,” he said.
For his part, Sejelo Police Station Officer, S/Supt, Banneetse Keakile, also commended clusters for their dedication to the cluster and innovative ways of combating crime that they have practiced over the years. S/Supt Keakile indicated that they were disheartened by the alarming increase of cases such as theft, robbery, missing persons, and stock theft.
He urged the cluster members to be vigilant and report any suspecting cases of that nature, adding that such traits could lead to crime reduction. He advised that during the festive season thieves were at their prime, adding that to prevent them, it was necessary for the community to work closely together through initiatives such as neighbourhood watch.
