It is crucial for churches, parents and community leaders  engage with schools in order to positively shape the development boy child and cultivate them into responsible citizens.

Speaking at a men’s conference at Golden Gospel International Church in Mulambakwena recently,   North East District men’s sector representative, Mr Chris Mosekihe said being a man started when one was still a boy.

“We do not have to wait for a boy to grow up first and start nurturing him on how to be a man,” he said.

He noted that teachers spent most of the time with pupils, but said it was paramount that parents and other community leaders paid schools visits for pupils to hear messages from external sources.

Mr Moseki said in most cases when pupils reached their homes there was no time for discussions with parents as they just had their supper and slept.

He said parents must change their mind-set as the call was not only for government employees. He said it called for self change and respecting the girl child.

On relationships, Mr Moseki said communication was important, adding that the needs of partners should be considered and satisfied.

He said it was time men acknowledged that women were not their property.

Motivational speaker, Mr Gobusamang Dombo said there were few incidents where women were perpetrators of GBV saying men and that men were always the culprits. He urged couples to refrain from adulterous relationships. He also advised men to have focus, objectives and priorities. He said they should get out of their shell and communicate with others.

Regarding drug abuse, Mr Dombo said it used to be rare to come across people living with mental health issues due to drug abuse. “People who abuse drugs have no remorse and they do awkward things that include murder,” he said .

For his part, Apostol Michael Jotia said the objective of the conference was to share ideas and find ways to mould men to be responsible members of the community. He also said they want to fight drug abuse, suicides and the murder of women. ENDS
