Crowd funding way to go -Kwape

Seepapitso Senior Secondary School Class of 1997 should maximize on its strength as a cohort and uplift one another to attain the aspiration of changing their lives for the better.

The MP for Kanye South, Dr Lemogang Kwape, said this at the Seepapitso’s Class of 1997 during an empowerment workshop.

With the theme, ‘Changing minds, Redirecting our destinies,’ Dr Kwape applauded the group for taking heed of the President’s call for mindset change. He urged them to explore creative ways of empowering themselves.

Dr Kwape said they should use the advantage of their numbers in the cohort and consider crowd funding to raise funds to finance their projects and businesses, thus helping onr another.

“If done wisely, this is an innovative way that you can explore in sourcing funds for your projects and business ideas, thus producing tangible mindset change results,” he said.He acknowledged their zeal to help and advised them that through crowd funding they would be able to donate small amounts to meet larger funding aim of a specific charitable project.

Dr Kwape said the mindset change was Botswana’s tradition from Botswana’s beginnings, post-colonial rule, in its independence era, through to the country’s diamond beneficiation period.

Currently, government had  through mindset change, adopted to align its economic development planning period with the electoral cycle.

He said this was done to prevent development from being at stand still whenever government completes its term, hence a need for the economic development to go by the electoral cycle.

Dr Kwape said the modality was an excellent move that formed part of the mindset change, as it would ensure a smooth transition of activities from one government to another.

On youth empowerment, Dr Kwape said his constituency office had an annual sponsorship for studies abroad and ovrseas.

He however expressed concern on the uptake, adding that recently few spaces were occupied as only a sizeable number of youth enrolled into the programme, and further advised more to take advantage of such opportunity when it presented itself next year.

The Class’s Vice Chairperson, Mr Lesiamang Lesiamang, said the class had taken into consideration President Dr Mokgweesi Masisi’s call for mindset change through the need to uplift those disadvantaged within their club. ENDS
