YANTRA Innovations in partnership with KGK Diamond Botswana has trained some youths on using a new diamond cutting and polishing machine.
A KGK graduate, Mr Wame Sekgopi, who will be the first Motswana to operate the machine, is appreciative of the newly acquired skill, which involves maintaining and updating its software.
Mr Sekgopi, an engineer from Botswana International University of Science Technology and an expert in the field of diamond cutting, said in an interview, “Through this I am able to work with the solar power as our factory works under solar energy.”
Another beneficiary, Mr Katlego Armstrong, an Optimus operator, said the machine, officially launched Monday, would help in efficient production and localisation of employee workforce in the diamond industry.
Optimum technology machine is the latest invention that is used to polish and cut diamonds.
The new machine is targeted at the African continent, where there is a shortage of skilled human resource in the diamond polishing industry.
Through the partnership, KGK Diamonds and YANTRA Innovations have successfully leveraged on this technology to aggressively localise its workforce in its factories in Botswana and neighbouring countries.
YANTRA Innovation will support process by supplying consumables and spares as well as transfer new skill over and above providing engineering support. Ends
