Ministry raids charges shops

The Ministry of Trade and Industry recently raided some shops that sell imported uniforms in Letlhakane.
The operation charged 19 shops for selling such uniform.
A total of 1 331 uniforms were confiscated.
The raid followed implementation of the Statutory Instrument No 76 of 2021, which restricted importation of school uniforms.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Mr Tshepiso Kgarubane, said Welvaart Trade had 122 assorted coloured school tracksuits and a Chinese female was charged P200 for violation of control of goods, prices and other charges contrary to section 47:02 of the trade act.
The owner of Shalshang Shop, which had 63 sets of black and white tracksuits, was charged P200.
Ackermans store was also charged P200 for failing to comply with the Statutory Instrument No 76 of 2021 as it was found with a total of 92 white boys and girls school shirts.
Meanwhile, the store was also charged for selling cellular phones, without a cellphone trading licence, so was Cellphone Warehouse, which was charged P200; Jet stores was also found in possession of 1 043 school uniforms including shirts, trousers and skirts, but the items were only recorded for reference.
