Werda-Makopong road nears completion

22 Jan 2023

Resealing and marking of the road between Werda and Makopong is almost complete.

Speaking in an interview recently, Millennium Holdings site agent, Mr Tebogo Cholo expressed optimism that the work was almost complete as it stood at 95.8 per cent completion rate.

He said most of the stretches were completed on December 6 last year, adding that they were only left with surfacing of two bus stops and a junction to the Werda Kgotla, as well as road marking the remaining 2km stretch.

“Once the material arrives we shall complete the remaining work within a day,” he said.

The 30 km road between Werda and Makopong was awarded a total of P21 million for resealing, applying of slurry, pothole patching and installation of road signs, shoulder widening and road reconstruction of some parts of the road.

Kgalagadi District Council chairman, Mr Hendrick Jacobs had in the past expressed concern that the project was moving at a snail pace. The contractor was granted extension for completion but due to the increase in quantities of potholes, and an additional two months for delays attributed to COVID-19 national lockdown.

The challenges extended contract completion date to September 4, 2020 which still failed to meet the deadline.

Nonetheless, Mr Jacobs appreciated that  the contractor was on site and was making headway as progress was visible. Ends
