Gumare-Mohembo road maintenance starts

The government will implement a system to ensure that projects were completed on time and within allocated budget, come April.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony for the Gumare-Mohembo road maintenance on Wednesday, the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mr Eric Molale lamented on the deplorable state of North West roads.
Mr Molale however, said the government was committed to restore the roads in the North West part of the country.
He said going forward, government would ensure that roads were maintained frequently as they were integral to the development of the economy, adding they aided in all life aspects
The Gumare-Mohembo road project was awarded to two companies: Bango Trading, which is awarded to Bango Trading at a cost of P102 million, and Rockefeller Civil Engineering PTY LTD, for the 70-kilometre Sepopa-Mohermbo portion at about P90 million.
Mr Molale implored Bango Trading to produce a quality work and on time, adding that the government wanted to empower local companies through the Economic Inclusion Act.
He said the maintenance work would also include access roads to places such as Etsha villages.
Bango Trading Director, Mr Moffat James said that the project, which was awarded in November last year, was expected to take 15 months and promised a quality project.
Member of Parliament for Ngami, Mr Caterpillar Hikuama appreciated that the project would help create jobs for locals and also include access roads to some villages, while Kgosi Moitshepi Molelwa of Gumare expressed gratitude that the maintenance was finally starting. ENDS
