18 Dec 2022
Choppies supermarket opening in Kopong has been welcomed, particularly by the low income residents, many of whom do not afford to drive to Gaborone for their groceries.
Speaking at the official opening of the 94th supermarket in the country, Member of Parliament for Lentsweletau/Mmopane, Ms Nnaniki Makwinja was happy that the opening of the supermarket would close the food gap in the village.
“This supermarket being opened here has brought resources nearer to the people of Kopong, which is also a development to the village.
I would, therefore, urge employees to be professional in doing their job.
As you are working here you are what keeps the supermarket standing, so let us not disappoint ourselves and the community,” she said.
On the other hand, Ms Makwinja advised local farmers to work hard and ensure that they supplied supermarkets, Choppies included, in order to reduce the import bill, especially on vegetables.
For his part, Kgosi Michael Molefe of Kopong also welcomed the opening of the supermarket in the village, which he said had been a need in the community.
“All those who got jobs through this development, respect your jobs, especially that there is high rate of unemployment in our country,” he said.
He also welcomed the Choppies’ team to Kopong and thanked them for bringing the supermarket to the village. ENDs
