Kgatleng prepares for road maintenance
01 Dec 2022
Kgatleng District Council has secured permits for burrow pits for road maintenance.
Council chairperson, Mr Daniel Molokwe said this followed government’s decision to implement high impact paving of internal roads in the constituency for 2023/24.
He told a council meeting this week that a consultant for material investigation and licensing of burrow pits had managed to secure a mining permit for the Artesia catchment area.
Mr Molokwe said the re-scoping for Modipane and Malolwane had been submitted to the Department of Environmental Affairs on October 30th and that mining permits were expected before the end of the year.
This, he said wouldd help in the maintenance of roads, which lost gravel due to continuous grading, resulting in residents complaining.
Meanwhile, he regretted the wanton vandalism of road infrastructure in the district and also lamented interruption of street lighting due to surges caused by unexpected power cuts and lightning during rainy seasons.
On other issues, Mr Molokwe said digitization of schools had begun in earnest, with Molefhi Senior Secondary School having received 1 778 laptops for learners and 144 for teachers.
“The laptops have been installed with tracking devices and are restricted to teaching and learning only, hence cannot be used for any other purposes,” he said.
Mr Molokwe said Molefhi had also been supplied with 36 braille note touch plus and 12 supernova connect assistive devices for the visually impaired learners.
“Linchwe II Junior Secondary School has also been provided with assistive devices and Matsieng Primary School is yet to receive some,” he added.
Regarding the schools’ feeding programme, Mr Molokwe said there was delayed implementation of a new additional meal for learners in several schools.
“I urge those responsible to act to do so in the next year,” he said.
He also said government had introduced the tomato and onion soup at schools to support local horticultural farmers.
Mr Molokwe also stated that there was a group of framers registered as an association to collectively market their produce to utilise a central collection point in Mmathubudukwane. ENDS
