Rampant cash heists investor repellent
08 Aug 2022
The recent cash heists can scare away international investors, if not eliminated expeditiously.
Delivering a keynote address at Maun crime prevention cluster awards cermony recently, renowned Ngamiland farmer, Mr Killer Ledimo stated that the country’s security guidelines were a priority for investors wishing to inject their money into that particular country, hence cash heists posed a threat to investors.
He said it was thus vital for Botswana to uphold the highest safety and security standards in order to attract business from beyond its borders.
Mr Ledimo said fighting crime called for concerted efforts from every Motswana to assist the police in bringing perpetrators to book.
He said the introduction of crime prevention committees had played a big role in fighting crime by enabling communities to unite and come up with strategies to eradicate bad conduct.
He commended the Maun cluster area crime prevention committees for tirelessly working with the police to ensure safety and criticised people who enabled GBV by concealing defilement cases and physical abuse in order to protect perpetrators.
Mr Ledimo said it was common in Ngamiland for families to choose to protect abusers at the expense of the abused children, for monetary gain.
In her remarks, Batawana regent, Kgosi Kealetile Moremi stated that stocktheft was a headache in Ngamiland, expressing hope that the KgomoKhumo initiative would eradicate stocktheft syndicates.
“Let us unite to fight stocktheft in our district because our people here make a living from farming and if these syndicates are not dismantled, our hard work will go to waste,” she said.
North West District Council chairperson, Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotho congratulated the winners for their exceptional work in fighting crime.
He thanked crime prevention committees for helping police fight crime and ensuring stability within their respective communities.
Mr Gabalebatse Matekane got the crime prevention veteran award, while Maun was crowned the best station.
