Back to school week can be hectic for both parents and learners as they have to cover school books, among other tasks.
In an interview with BOPA on Tuesday, the 27-year-old, Ms Lemani Jenamo, who offers a book covering services at a cost, said parents in and around Gaborone could utilise her rare affordable services through bookings.
“I cover primary school books at a cost of P30 and for secondary schools it is P40 while P15 is for pre-school books,” she said.
Covering books, she said, had always been her hobby as far as she can remember, particularly that she believes education begins from tidiness of books.
“For one to be identified as a student, their books should look clean.
I also believe that neat books are a motivation to pupil’s learning,” Ms Jenamo explained.
As a school girl back in the days at both primary and secondary school, Ms Jenamo said, teachers loved to use her books to show other pupils how best to cover books neatly.
She said even when the school head wanted books for class review, her books would be used and this motivated her to study hard.
In a day, she can cover more than 40 books and sleeps late because she is determined to better pupils’ academic lives.
The Nkange born is an Information Technology analyst and has so much passion to help pupils, including tutoring them in Mathematics for free.
COVID-19 pandemic, she said, had also woken up her passion.
Ms Jenamo expressed a wish that unemployed graduates could think out of the box and venture into unique businesses to make a living.
“We the youth are so much depressed, we need side hustles to push our lives,” she advised.
Ms Jenamo said she started her business this year, even though she harboured the idea to roll it out since last year.
She said when she advertised her business on social media, people mocked her, saying ke lechono la January.
However, she said she ignored their words and persevered since she wanted to help pupil.
Her future plans, she said included expanding her book covering business to reach every corner of Botswana because many clients were happy with her work.
Her clients’ reviews on Facebook, she said, were encouraging, hence her plans to extend the business to Francistown soon.
She wishes to employ, on part- time basis, unemployed JC and Form Five leavers.
Ms Jenamo believes that there are many opportunities available and encourages the youth to soldier on in everything they want to do and never be discouraged by naysayers. ends
