Sale use of dagga in Sebina worrisome
18 Jun 2020
Kgosi Shathani Kgakanyane of Sebina has raised concern about parents who sell dagga to young people.
In an interview with BOPA, Kgosi Kgakanyane called upon those involved in the illegal sale of dagga to desist from doing so.
She said in an effort to address the situation, the village leadership engaged the community through kgotla meetings to appeal to peddlers to stop selling dagga to school children.
Parents, she said, had been advised to educate their children on the dangers of using dagga.
She observed that during the lockdown, youngsters grouped themselves and smoked at Shashe or Nyamambisi rivers.
Kgosi Kgakanyane however commended the police for doing a great job in fighting the problem, as arrests had been made with some culprits given corporal punishment at the kgotla.
Furthermore, Kgosi Kgakanyane expressed disappointment at some people who fail to divulge information to the police regarding the people who illegally sell the drug.
She said some of those people were said to be engaging children to distribute and sell dagga. She therefore appealed to government to reinforce the police in the village and assist with an additional vehicle to help curb the problem. Ends
