Three men of Zimbabwean nationality accused of house break-in and property theft appeared before Maun chief magistrate Thebeetsile Molalu on April 28.
The three; Prosper Dube (36), Sabelo Dube (28) and Thabo Ndlovu are alleged to have broken into a house belonging to one Billy Mogojwa between April 5 and April 6 at Boseja in Maun.
The three are alleged to have stolen house property worth about P7 300 that ranged from sneakers, ladies shoes, training jackets and a bulk of t-shirts.
Public prosecutor of Botswana Police Service, Paul Basupi requested court to remand the three in custody as investigations were at an initial stage.
Prosecutor Basupi also said the three were a flight risk since they had been staying in Botswana illegally as per findings by investigating officer Dikai Nkape of Maun police.
He further submitted that some stolen items were yet to be located, while some had been recovered with the help of the suspects.
In his defense, first accused Prosper pleaded with the court to grant him bail since they had returned all the items they had taken from the house in question.
The second accused, Sabelo, also requested for bail saying his wife was in hospital and was a nursing mum adding that he had been living in Maun for over 20 years.
The third accused, Ndlovu, said he came from a poor background where he was the sole breadwinner and he added that if granted bail, he would honour the conditions set by court.
In the end, Maun chief magistrate remanded the three in custody pending bail ruling. The three will appear again on May 25. ENDS
