A liquor restaurant in Nata was on Monday charged for not complying with the regulations set by the government for the prevention of the spread of COVID-19.
In an interview with BOPA on Tuesday, Nata police station commander, Superintendent Vincent Pitsietsile said the liquor restaurant was fined P500 for non-compliance.
He said according to the guidelines for prevention of the pandemic, liquor restaurants are supposed to open at 10am and close at 8pm.
However, he said the restaurant had gone beyond the stipulated times, with the owner directing his staff to operate until late at night.
Superintendent Pitsietsile said the police therefore, had to act swiftly to curb such behaviour.
Regarding compliance to the measures in the policing area, which covers areas such as Nata, Manxotae, Sepako and Maposa, Superintendent Pitsietsile said residents were adhering to the guidelines set by the government.
Meanwhile in Tutume, Superintendent Jerry Halahala commended religious organisations for their compliance to the restrictions.
He said they had not experienced a challenge, as many had stopped their services in compliance to the preventative measures.
He however pointed out that they had problems with the Chibuku depots, which were not included in the first set of measures, but were now expected to close.
He said some depot operators decided not to follow the restrictions.
Superintendent Halahala said law enforcement officers, in partnership with other stakeholders, were on the ground monitoring the situation, to ensure compliance to measures aimed at prevention of the spread of COVID-19. Ends
