Mabutsane police are preparing to bring before the courts of law a 29-year-old woman of Rolong ward in Khakhea who allegedly scalded a 16-year-old nephew with hot water.
Speaking in an interview, Mabutsane Police Station commander, Superintendent Keitshokile Kebodiretse said that so far investigations were on-going and they expected the suspect to be brought for mention on November 22, where she is likely to be charged with unlawful wounding.
Supt Kebodiretse said that they received the report on the matter from Jwaneng hospital after the victim was rushed there on an emergency.
“Normally we should have received the report from Khakhea, but the circumstances made it an emergency, which then meant that priority was to rush the victim to the hospital,” he said.
Supt Kebodiretse said that the offence occurred at Khakhea on October 31 after the victim had an argument with the suspect’s son.
He said the suspect then boiled some water and splashed the victim with it, thereby scalding him.
“Immediately the victim was rushed to the local clinic in great npain and upon seeing his condition, the nurses there rushed him to Jwaneng hospital in a bid to save his life. We later received a report from the hospital and followed the suspect and arrested her,” he said.
He said that the victim, a Form Two pupil at Bonnington Junior School in Gaborone, was recovering.
On another matter, Supt Kebodiretse said that they had arrested two suspects who allegedly stole a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 in Ghanzi after they received information from their
counterparts from Ghanzi.
“On October 31 we received information from our counterparts in Ghanzi that a Land Cruiser had been stolen and the suspects were headed our direction.
We then did our patrols and managed to trace the vehicle between Sekoma and Mabutsane and followed it,” he said.
He said that on realisation that police were following them, the suspects sped off and made a turn into the bush after Sekoma, and that after losing track of the police they turned back and dumped the vehicle in Sekoma and escaped on foot.
He however said that with the assistance of a back-up the following day, they managed to track and arrest the two suspects, a 29-year-old South African national and a 25-year-old Zimbabwean.
He said that the suspects were then handed back to Ghanzi police, where the offence was committed. ENDS
