Lions club expresses gratitude to members

President of Lions Club International, Dr Jung-Yul Choi has express gratitude to Lion club members who, over the years, have contributed to nation-building through community development programmes.
Speaking at the Lions Club Multiple District 412 dinner, Dr Choi said the world would not be what is today if it was not with the assistance of Lion club volunteers who had served the people of the community they live in.
“The whole principle of The Lions Club was conceived as a club of volunteers. We would not exist unless we have men and women who contribute their time and patience,” he said.
He said the club was actively involved in community-based projects year round, citing prostate cancer screenings and hot meal deliveries among others.
“Lions Club regionally also assists with disasters,where there is a need we assist,” Dr Choi said.
The Lions Club President said volunteering fostered a special relationship and created strong ties within the community.
“Yes, it is challenging and we do not receive payment but we get a great satisfaction from the community service we perform,” he said.
He said Lion club voluntary campaigns had contributed immensely to economic and social development at local, national and international levels through engagement on philanthropic deeds.
Dr Choi applauded club members for taking action to make the world a better place for the less privileged adding that with over 1.4 million members across the world, the club is the largest service organization in the world.
He said one of the more well-known benefits of volunteering was the impact on the community saying volunteering allowed volunteers to connect to your community and make it a better place.
Even helping out with the smallest tasks, he said could make a difference to the lives of people, animals, and organizations in need.
Further, District 412 governor, Ms Tshidi Sarema challenged members to live to the club’s motto; we serve, indicating that it was only when they served with dedication and selflessness that Batswana would understand the club’s mandate.
She called on club members to work even harder in their service to the community, applauding the club for the charitable works it had carried out so far.
She said despite the challenges of the past year, the club managed to achieve a lot in its efforts to help society, among them the recent successfully Eye Screening at Lotlhakane where a total 145 People were screened, 88 people were issued reading spectacles. ENDS
