31 Oct 2019

Christmas  has come early for Francistown’s Tshimologo Simulation Centre pupils who this week received toys and snack packs from Botswana Prisons Services northern division.

The centre, which helps children with disabilities under the age of 12, has been operating since 1984.

Handing over the donations, senior assistant commissioner of prisons, Mr Sekano Sekano said they were inspired by the spirit of compassion to give to the needy.

He said the donations, in particular, the toys were very important to a child's development as research had shown that learning through play was paramount.

“They also teach children about sharing, helps develop their fine and gross motor skills and nurtures their creativity and imagination,” he said.

Mr Sekano further stated that his organisation’s association with the school would continue noting that last year the division repainted the institution.

In addition to the painting work, the division refurbished the school’s ablution facilities and replaced floor tiles at a total cost of over P18 000.

The senior assistant commissioner explained that the officers, who contributed from their own pockets, saw it fit to present the pupils with gifts in order to bring them dignity and happiness.

For his part, the centre’s coordinator, Mr Onkutlule Ramolelekane thanked the officers for their continued generosity.

In a side interview, Mr Ramolelekane mentioned that apart from donations from Botswana Prison Services northern division, the centre also got help in terms of relish and vegetables from Women Institute of Francistown on a monthly basis.

Giving a vote of thanks, administration assistant at the school Ms Popego Ndori said the division was heaven-sent adding that the difference it made in the pupils’ lives was a blessing to the community of Tshimologo Stimulus Centre.ENDS
