A 27-year-old physical trainer, Otsile Emang promotes fitness and healthy lifestyles by engaging members of the community in a free physical training at Bobonong Sub-Land Board.
Speaking in an interview recently, Emang explained how physical exercise was beneficial to the human body, especially senior citizens who stay home.
The Dagwi-born fitness trainer, who underwent on the job training at a gym and fitness room in Letlhakane, said that his heart was warmed by the positive response from the Bobonong community that taps on his free services. Amongst the trainees, he revealed was a 56-year-old, whose energy was like that of a teenager.
Although Emang harbours intentions of opening a gym room under Fresh Luk Fitness Botswana name, he explained that his free services were not only meant to promote exercise, but also to introduce gym and fitness to a community that had been lacking such services before he charges a fee.
By providing free services, the young man said he was also gauging the potential of uptake for his future project, with the view to spread his wings even beyond Bobonong.
He said Facebook responses presented an opportunity.
He said the training was usually negatively impacted by harsh weather conditions, since he conducted sessions in an open space from Monday to Friday, with Sunday declared a social walk day in preparation for another week.
“People pitch up for training in large numbers and we are seeing new faces every day,” said Emang, with an air of satisfaction.
Having had his operations since February, he is upbeat about opening a gym room in April next year, where graduates of his training could be instructors to train those who might need assistance.
Prior to becoming a fitness trainer, Emang said he stayed in Letlhakane, where he was introduced to a gym room by his friend Letty.
He said it was from that interaction that he would cultivate and nurture his passion for gym and physical training.
To become his own boss, he said he left Letlhakane to test the waters in Bobonong October last year, where he said he found a need and cut a niche.
Emang, who has been renting a house from July and paying from his savings accrued whilst in Letlhakane, said he hoped to start charging P60 subscription fee from January to buy equipment. ENDS
