Teacher training and technical education director has applauded Batswana for their growing support towards the less privileged members of society.

Handing over a house worth P170 000 to 85-year-old Ms Mmapula Mokhobe, who stays with eight of her grandchildren in Molepolole recently, Mr Matlhogonolo Mokakapadi said timely completion of such structures required commitment of responsible individuals.

“It requires full commitment to complete such a valuable structure within seven months.

That shows commitment, devotion, patience, hardwork and loyalty that you were able to complete the project within a very short space of time,” he said.

He also commended Molepolole College of Education (MCE) staff and students for their support and being a compassionate group of individuals in helping the Mokhobe family.

He further implored those who contributed towards the project, particularly the Molepolole business community, to continue in order to improve the lives of the needy.

The donation included a three-roomed house, modification of a thatched house and replacing thatch with corrugated iron sheets, a toilet, connection of a standpipe as well as fencing the yard.

On behalf of the business community, Monageng Valuers managing director, Mr Shima Monageng also commended MCE for their contribution, saying it was highly appreciated for the largest learning institution in Molepolole to have made a mark in changing lives of the Mokhobe family by putting a smile on their faces through providing dignified accommodation.

“It is important that we learn to give by identifying need within our communities,” advised Mr Monageng.

Meanwhile, Kgosi Motshegetsi Bakwena in his welcome remarks said he was humbled by MCE’s gesture in providing a dignified home to one of their own.

He encouraged beneficiaries, especially the grandchildren to take care of the house, especially their grandmother.

“Do not take over and push back the old woman as she is the main beneficiary of the said project. I am concerned that some children enjoy the benefits of similar gestures ignoring the fact that parents are property owners. Let us not abandon parents and let the project serve the purpose it was intended to,” he advised. He said it was through full care of facilities that they would last longer. ENDs
