Boko advises voters to rally behind Lucas

Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) leader, Advocate Duma Boko has appealed to Bobonong electorates to vote for his party in the October general elections to ensure job creation, increased living wages, increased tertiary students allowance and old age pensions.
Advocate Boko was speaking at the launch of UDC’s Bobonong prospective parliamentary candidate, Mr Taolo Lucas and nine council candidates on August 31in Bobonong.
He said the minerals and tourism sectors had created wealth for the country, and that part of the money could be used to give people decent lives. He promised a living wage of P3 000, P1 500 for old age pensioners and a tertiary education allowance of P2 500.
Advocate Boko raised concern over the paltry salaries of workers, Ipelegeng employees, pension for the elderly and the caretakers of people living with disabilities.
Regarding Mr Lucas, Advocate Boko described him as a great leader with a proven track record. He said Mr Lucas knew the challenges regarding workers and was ready to stand for the workers under UDC.
Advocate Boko also said Mr Lucas was knowledgeable on issues of policy regarding workers and would assist the UDC government on labour related matters.
Another speaker, Mr Phillip Manowe said Botswana was a wealthy country but with citizens living in poverty. He said the 100 000 jobs that UDC aimed to create would be created from the minerals and tourism sectors.
Furthermore, Mr Manowe commended Mr Lucas for working hard to make the opposition visible in Bobirwa constituency which used to be a BDP stronghold.
He said the UDC would use mineral funds to improve health services and education system to be globally competitive.
Another speaker, Ms Mathodi Modisapudi, UDC Tati East parliamentary candidate, said among other issues which needed urgent attention was poverty, saying it was one of many socio-economic ailments which had affected a large portion of the population. These, she said, could be addressed “if only UDC is voted into power.”
Mr Thabologo Furniture said it would be a wise move to vote for Mr Lucas because he was well-informed and had been championing for freedom of information in Bobirwa.
He said Bobirwa constituents were fortunate to have a man of Mr Lucas’s caliber, as he had proved to be capable and dedicated towards everything he undertook, especially issues of national interests which touched on the lives of people.
He urged Babirwa to embrace the UDC as it would address issues such as unemployment. He added that it had alternative programmes which would better develop the country.
For his part, Mr Lucas thanked the leadership for giving him an opportunity to contest under the UDC.
He said he was offering himself as a sacrifice to Batswana. ENDS
