Kutlwano police station commander, Superintendent Neo Serumola has warned residents of Block 4 location in Francistown about the rising incidents of the theft of car batteries which happens mostly at night.
Superintendent Serumola said this during kgotla meeting addressed by Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi on August 14 in Francistown.
To this end, Superintendent Serumola stated the police have intensified night patrols with a view to try and fight this improper behavior.
Already, such efforts according to Superintendent Seromola have started to bear fruits and some batteries have been recovered.
The police chief said however that because almost all recovered batteries are not marked, potential owners were having a difficult time identifying them.
He thus advised residents and Batswana at large to always make a mark on their items for purposes of identification in the event they are stolen and later found.
Still on crime, Superintendent Serumola called on residents of Francistown to be on the look-out for a quartet that uses force to break into homes and rob people of their belongings such as money, cell phones and other valuable electronic gadgets.
Mr Serumola sentiments were confirmed by Area Ward Development Committee Chairperson, Ms Elizabeth Morebodi who expressed concern on the matter earlier on when giving her committee’s report.
Ms Morebodi other concern was abandoned homes and church premises which she said had turned into breeding grounds for all manner of vices including the peddling of drugs.
“We also have a lot of stray pets and people dumping litter indiscriminately in this area making it an eyesore to the general public,” she said adding that such litter also poses a serious health hazard to the community.
Meanwhile Area MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi who has been conducting a series of meetings in Francistown South constituency, has told Block 4 residents that following the passing of the motion on rehabilitation by the just ended 11th parliament that also paved way for general elections due this year, a rehabilitation centre will be constructed at a yet to be identified major centre in Botswana.
The move, according to the Francistown lawmaker will complement the rehabilitation segment already in place at Sbrana psychiatrist hospital in Lobatse, which unfortunately according to Mr Mmolotsi was not used optimally due to stigma attached it.
He said funds available other such facilities will be spread across the major centres of Botswana in an endeavor to fight prevalent drug abusive countrywide. ENDS
