03 Apr 2019

Maun police have arrested three suspects in connection with murder incidents that occurred in different places.

Station commander Superintendent Motlhaba Ramaabya confirmed in an interview that they had arrested two men and a woman to assist them in investigations of two murder incidents.

The first incident, he said involves a 63-year-old man of Tsibogolamatebele cattle post near Chanoga, who is alleged to have murdered a 26-year-old cattle herder at the cattle post.

He said the incident took place on Saturday and the suspect explained that he had beaten the deceased, whom he found destroying produce in his ploughing field.

The suspect is said to have attacked the deceased, leaving him with serious injuries on the head, hoping that he would go to his house.

Superintendent Ramaabya revealed that the suspect said he returned to the field the following day and was surprised to find the deceased still lying motionless, where he had left him.

The police rushed the man to Letsholathebe Memorial hospital, where he was certified dead.

Another incident took place at Thitoyamokodi ward on March 28 , where a couple beat up a 30-year-old man after a misunderstanding with the female suspect.

Narrating the incident, Superintendent Ramaabya said the deceased rented a house in the same yard with the couple and he had an argument over and old issue with the suspect, who started beating him up with an object.

The boyfriend to the suspect joined in and the duo continued beating the deceased until he sustained serious injuries all over the body.

Superintendent Ramaabya said the neighbours reported the matter to the police, who went to the scene and rushed the deceased to the hospital, where he died the following day.

Since the beginning of the year, the police have recorded only two incidents of murder compared to the same period last year, when six were registered.

Superintendent Ramaabya appealed to the public to avoid taking decisions when angry and to seek advice from social workers, relatives and tribal leaders to avoid taking decisions that they would regret for the rest of their lives. Ends
