Cluster policing impact evident

 Superintendent, Mogomotsi Matlapeng, says they have reduced crime in Kanye due to their partnership with cluster policing volunteers. 

Speaking in an interview, Supt Matlapeng, said they had recorded a decline of cases after registering 4 106 cases in 2018 compared to 4 440 in 2017. 

“Whilst there has been such a decline in most contact crimes, we are mindful that there is still much that needs to be done to accelerate reduction of these crimes in our precinct,” he said. 

He said they had seen decline of crime cases ranging from theft, burglary, assault to robbery. 

“Crime has since reduced after having joined forces with the Cluster police representatives, which have been identified as one of the best way of combating crime,” Supt Matlapeng said. 

He indicated that cluster volunteers and the police, had been conducting night operations in an effort to curb crime.

 “We are determined to work hard and remain optimistic about ensuring we remain perform higher consistently. As the Police, we value the continued efforts of cluster policing as our partners in improving the policing service in the area, and looking forward to more engagements in the years ahead,” he said. 

Supt Matlapeng indicated that cluster policing was an integral and critical foundation in the policing service, adding that they were working towards strengthening the partnership.. 

He said it was necessary for both parties to continue working together and their desire was to attract more youth into fight against crime.

 Supt Matlapeng further noted that they had registered an increase in the number of murder cases, having registered two murder cases in 2017 and three in 2018.

 “We seriously value protection of lives. Nevertheless we all have a responsibility to work together to ensure that the loss of life is drastically reduced, if we are to win the war on crime,” he said.  

He called on residents to refrain from taking the law into their hands, but rather report to the police.

Meanwhile, Supt Matlapeng said they had arrested a 35-year-old man on allegations that he raped his 37 year old ex-girlfriend. 

He said the man was reported to have entered the home of the victim at Chibana ward where an argument ensued and the suspect later raped the victim. 

He indicated that the accused was still in custody pending further investigations. 

With regard to some allegations of criminals who swindled money from individuals, he advised that people should always enquire about the legitimacy of businesses. 

“We have linkages with relevant government departments, in establishing legitimacy and compliance to registrations of businesses,” he said  Ends
