Council requests Ipelegeng funds
The North West District Council (NWDC) has requested over P71 million to finance the 2019/20 Ipelegeng programme beginning April.
Total projects to be implemented are 363 and funds requested are expected to cover material costs, salaries and wages for 7 918 beneficiaries.
Ipelegeng coordinator, Mr Bishop Keoleletse, said this when presenting a project memorandum during a special full council meeting in Maun recently.
He said 75 per cent would be allocated to labour intensive projects.
The envisaged projects, he said, included those proposed by the communities.
In addition, he said, maintenance would be carried in some public facilities such as staff houses, clinic and storeroom mainly due to high bats infestation cases in the district.
Other projects to be undertaken included construction of Phuduhudu kgotla shelter, toilets at the crops office and classrooms with reeds.
Mr Keoleletse said procurement of materials would commence once the funds were disbursed to sub-districts, adding that the intention was to start the programme with labour intensive projects first to keep the programme running while procurement for material to be used for maintenance works would be done between April and May.
He said delivery of materials would be catered for the month of June 2 while maintenance and construction projects would commence in July.
The coordinator also indicated that programme would create employment opportunities to relief the unemployed and vulnerable from poverty.
In addition, Mr Keoleletse stated that some public works such as maintenance of government facilities would go a long way in addressing unhabitual infrastructure which were abandoned leading to acute shortage of accommodation and office space which are major concerns in the district.
He said his office would employ beneficiaries regardless of their gender, disability and HIV status adding that those with disabilities would be engaged in appropriate projects.
The programme is expected to employ 95 016 beneficiaries on temporary basis and that the feeding programme would also create self-employment. ENDS
