Internal roads remain priority

20 Jan 2019

Otse internal roads remain a priority under the constituency development funding hence villagers will see more paving of roads in the village, says Ramotswa constituency legislator, Mr Samuel Rantuana.

The Member of Parliament told Otse residents when addressing a kgotla meeting recently that this year, the village would benefit P4 million out for the P10 million constituency funding, and would be used primarily for internal roads.

Mr Rantuana said the rest would be divided among the remaining villages, adding that in the previous year, Mogobane benefitted under the same arrangement for internal roads.

He said paving internal roads was the answer to the concern about dusty internal roads in the village.

He promised residents that before his tenure came to an end, residents would see more internal roads. The response was sparked by comments from community members who decried the state of internal roads in the village.

South East District Council principal community development officer, Mr Nakedi Morwagabuse conceded that internal roads in the village were not satisfactory.

He stated that the council had not abdicated its responsibility of gravelling internal roads, but explained that the council faced a shortage of resources.

Mr Morwagabuse said the district was prone to floods hence internal roads and stormwater reticulation remained high priorities.

He said some of the roads which needed attention served as alternative roads for the district and could be used during disasters such as floods.

Otse chief representative, Kgosi Mothusi Tsetse commended residents for having peacefully welcomed the New Year.

However, he expressed concern over cohabitation cases that the chieftainship and courts had to intervene.

Kgosi Tsetse cautioned residents against such practice, saying it disadvantaged them when one partner died, and that it was also against the Setswana practice.

Furthermore, he called for the community to be cautious about family planning, saying it was no longer ideal to have a big family due to the high cost of living.

Also, he rebuked men who have a habit of having many children before marriage and encouraged unmarried females to say no to attempts of repeated pregnancies before marriage.

The MP was touring his constituency ahead of the upcoming Parliament session as well as to brief them about what transpired during the previous session. ENDs
