Seronga police are investigating a case in which body of an 11-month baby was found floating in one of the channels around the village.

Officer Commanding District No.5, Senior Superintendent, Peter Gochela said in an interview that they received a report from neighbours of the deceased on Tuesday morning.

He explained that the deceased was staying with her grandmother.

He said the neighbours reported that on the fateful morning, they woke up to find the grandmother to the deceased half naked in their yard and looking confused.

When they questioned her about the whereabouts of the baby, she led them to a certain channel where they found the baby floating in water.

Senior Superintendent Gochela said they managed to retrieve the baby, who was certified dead at Seronga clinic.

Currently, he said the grandmother, whom they suspected could be mentally disabled, was in police custody to assist them with investigations.

In Maun, police are investigating an incident in which a three-year-old child fell off a vehicle and died on the spot.

Senior Superintendent Gochela said the incident took place on Sunday around 8:30 pm at Gcxabara ward.

He said it was reported that the deceased was with his family and it seemed one of the vehicle doors at the back seat was not well closed, since the incident happened on a curve.

The deceased, he said, was certified dead at Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital, while investigations continued.

Still in Maun, two people lost their lives in another road accident that took place at Sedie ward on Monday afternoon.

The accident involved a Honda Fit taxi, which was carrying some passengers and a truck which was heading to town.

According to Senior Superintendent Gochela said the taxi hit the truck head on and its driver died on the spot, while one of the passengers died at hospital the following day.

The other passenger from the taxi sustained serious injuries and was admitted at the hospital.

He pleaded with drivers to exercise more caution and obey road regulations to prevent accidents. ENDS
