Prosecutor in the case in which Daniel Phadisa is accused of the murder of two women in Broadhurst in Gaborone last year, has told court that the state will in the next mention be ready to have the matter committed to the High Court.

During an appearance at Broadhurst Magistrate Court on September 13, Ms Neo Molelekwa of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) informed the court that the prosecution had almost wrapped up its investigations in readiness for the trial.

When asked to address the court, Phadisa said life in prison was unbearable and pleaded that the case be committed to the High Court without delay so that trial could start.

Phadisa also told the presiding magistrate, Mr Gaseitsiwe Tonoki that last week he was taken into solitary confinement and then assaulted by prison warders on allegations that he had been found with a cellphone as well as dagga.

He said he was then forced to write a statement admitting to the crime despite one inmate having come forward to claim ownership of the said items.

After hearing both parties, Mr Tonoki set the next mention for September 26.

The self-represented Phadisa is in court for the murder of Bembe Magosi and her daughter Gomolemo Motladiile, an offence he is alleged to have committed on September 30 last year. ENDS
